Around the Repeater

Open Topic • Participant Led • Everyone Welcome

Not every net needs an agenda, a presentation, or a specific subject matter. Sometimes the best conversations happen when experienced operators, new hams, and friends from around the region simply key up and see where the discussion goes.

Around the Repeater is the Milwaukee Repeater Club’s open discussion net, designed to bring people together for conversation, camaraderie, and the spontaneous exchange of ideas. This is a participant-led gathering where the topics are determined by those who check in. One night might feature a discussion about antennas, digital modes, and the latest radio projects. Another might drift into local events, technology, weather, travel adventures, or stories from the road.

The only thing that’s predictable is that the conversation will be different every time.

What Do We Talk About?

The short answer is: just about anything.

Common topics include:

  • Amateur radio projects and operating experiences
  • Technology and electronics
  • Current events and local happenings
  • Weather and travel stories
  • Club activities and upcoming events
  • Favorite hobbies and interests
  • Road trips and adventures
  • The occasional random discussion that starts somewhere and ends somewhere completely unexpected

There are no prepared presentations and no expectation that participants stay focused on a single subject. The conversation naturally evolves as operators contribute their thoughts, experiences, questions, and stories.

A Net Built Around Community

Around the Repeater is about more than radio. It’s about the people behind the microphones.

Whether you’re a newly licensed operator looking to get involved, a long-time amateur with decades of experience, or someone who simply enjoys hearing what fellow hams are up to, you’ll find a welcoming atmosphere and plenty of opportunities to join the conversation.

Participants are encouraged to:

  • Check in and say hello
  • Share what’s happening in their corner of the hobby
  • Ask questions and seek advice
  • Tell stories and exchange experiences
  • Connect with other operators throughout southeastern Wisconsin and beyond

Pull Up a Chair and Join In

Like friends gathering around a table at the local coffee shop, Around the Repeater is a place to relax, share ideas, learn something new, and enjoy the fellowship that makes amateur radio special.

No agenda. No presentations. No pressure.

Just good conversation, great people, and whatever topic comes around the repeater next.
